Figured sea-island fiber is superior to unfigured sea-island fiber in terms of physical properties and environmental impacts. However, at present sea components which are widely used in producing figured sea-island fiber are still alkali-soluble polyester chips (COPET chips). It still needs to use sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric (sulphuric) acid in the process of reduction and sewage treatment. And it will also form solid waste which will still have a negative impact on the environment. If the island component is PET, there is also a risk that the island component is damaged by lye and a condition that the flame retardant components are damaged.

In order to solve this problem, our company and scientific research institutes have jointly developed recyclable sea components to replace COPET slices. This work has made significant progress. The whole process of chip synthesis, spinning, nonwovens, soaking, reduction, post-processing and sea components recycling has been completed which laid a foundation for industrialized batch production.

 At present, the two sides are cooperating with downstream tanneries to carry out detailed and perfect process verification for subsequent links such as soaking and reduction and so on. We look forward to developing whole process environmentally friendly ultra-fiber leather using recyclable sea components and water-based resins, which has a higher cost performance than all of the existing products, and contributing to environmental protection and transformation and upgrading of the leather industry.
